EFL Extends Reading FC Sale Deadline to May 5

Reading Football Club has been granted a further extension by the English Football League (EFL) until May 5 for owner Dai Yongge to complete the sale of the club, after agreeing terms with an unnamed buyer. This is the second extension following Yongge's disqualification under the EFL’s owners’ and directors’ test, with previous deadlines in April. The agreed deal includes the club’s stadium and training facilities, and the buyer will support the club’s immediate financial obligations to ensure that day-to-day operations remain unaffected during the transition. Although the buyer’s identity remains confidential, reports have linked former Wycombe Wanderers chairman Rob Couhig to the purchase. The EFL cited ongoing progress as the reason for the extension and warned that failure to complete the sale could risk club disqualification. Reading currently sit just outside the League One play-off places on goal difference with two matches remaining.
