Mets, Tigers Begin Multiple Rehab Assignments Amid Injuries

Mark Vientos of the New York Mets is set to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse early next week as he recovers from a right hamstring strain sustained on June 3. Vientos has shown quicker-than-expected progress and is likely to return to the Mets roster within the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, the Detroit Tigers provided positive injury updates for right-hander Reese Olson and utility player Matt Vierling, both of whom have started rehab assignments with Triple-A Toledo. Vierling will begin as designated hitter before progressing to playing defense, while Olson will start pitching rehab games aimed at rebuilding endurance. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch noted that Vierling feels better with throwing and Olson’s return is expected by late June. However, veteran pitcher Alex Cobb continues to battle hip inflammation and will remain on rehab assignment with delayed outings due to recent injections.
