Rafael Grossi, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is visiting Ukraine to assess the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant amid ongoing attacks in the region. The plant, under Russian control since the 2022 invasion, recently suffered damage to its power access due to artillery shelling, which has heightened concerns about a potential nuclear accident. Grossi aims to expand IAEA inspections to ensure the plant's critical electricity supplies remain intact. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the difficulty and danger of reclaiming control of the plant. Both Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of shelling the facility, further complicating the situation. Grossi’s visit includes meetings with senior Ukrainian officials and a subsequent trip to Kyiv to discuss further measures to prevent a nuclear disaster.
