Teen Charged in Union, Maine Paddleboarder Killing
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the homicide of Sunshine 'Sunny' Stewart, a 48-year-old woman whose body was found on an island in Crawford Pond, Union, Maine, after she went missing while paddleboarding on July 2. Maine State Police determined Stewart died from strangulation and blunt force trauma. Authorities allege the teenage suspect, who was vacationing in the area with his family, attempted to conceal Stewart’s body on the island. The suspect was apprehended without incident in Union and is being held at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Police have not disclosed the specific charges the juvenile will face or if he knew Stewart. The incident has deeply unsettled the local community, and the investigation remains ongoing.
