Darja Varfolomeev, a 17-year-old gymnast originally from Russia, won the gold medal in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, scoring a total of 142.850 points. This victory marks a historic achievement as she is the first German to win this title and the first to medal in rhythmic gymnastics since 1984. Varfolomeev's performance included the highest scores in three of the four events, outperforming Bulgaria's Boryana Kaleyn, who claimed silver, and Italy's Sofia Raffaeli, who took bronze. The absence of Russian competitors due to the war in Ukraine allowed other nations to shine, with Kaleyn winning Bulgaria's first individual medal in the sport since 1988.
