Texans GM Reports Progress but No Timetable for RB Mixon's Return

Houston Texans GM Nick Caserio said there is no timetable for Joe Mixon’s return from an offseason foot/ankle injury, adding that Mixon is “making progress” and the team expects clearer information in the next three to four weeks. Mixon has been on the reserve/non-football injury list and missed spring, training camp, the preseason and the first five regular-season games. League and team sources describe the foot/ankle problem as a “tough and complicated” issue; Mixon has pursued nonsurgical procedures and outside medical help, and some sources doubt he will play at all this season. Caserio said the team will evaluate his progress after that period and then decide whether he can return this year. In the meantime Houston has been splitting carries between veteran Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks, who have contributed but not replicated Mixon’s previous 1,000-yard production. Mixon, 29, ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024 and remains a key but uncertain piece of the Texans’ backfield plans.
