William H. Macy has officially joined the cast of Edgar Wright's adaptation of Stephen King's novel, The Running Man, which is being produced by Paramount Pictures. Glen Powell leads an ensemble cast that includes notable names such as Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, and Emilia Jones, with Macy set to play a character who assists Powell's protagonist, Ben Richards, who is thrust into a deadly government-controlled gameshow. The film is set in a dystopian future where Richards must survive for 30 days while being hunted by professional killers to win a substantial cash prize to help his sick daughter. Wright, known for films like Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, co-wrote the screenplay and will produce the film, aiming for a narrative closer to the original novel compared to the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Running Man is scheduled to begin shooting soon and is set for release on November 21, 2025.
