Vedanta Ltd. Acquires Kalinga Lancers Hockey Team

Vedanta Limited has acquired full ownership of the Kalinga Lancers, a prominent hockey team in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, ahead of the upcoming Hockey India League (HIL). This acquisition, previously co-owned by Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), reflects Vedanta's commitment to promoting sports in the region. Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director of Vedanta, emphasized the company's investment in both the team and the future of Indian hockey, aiming to enhance infrastructure and nurture grassroots talent. Vedanta plans to build a competitive squad for the HIL by improving facilities, securing sponsorships, and exploring partnerships. The move aligns with Vedanta's broader mission of socio-economic development in Odisha, where it has been active for over two decades. The company sees this acquisition as a vital step to elevate the profile of hockey in India.
