Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, a former Arsenal player currently with Greenock Morton, has been charged with attempting to smuggle £600,000 worth of cannabis into the UK. The 33-year-old was arrested at his home near Glasgow on Wednesday, following the discovery of approximately 60 kg of cannabis in two suitcases at Stansted Airport, which had arrived from Bangkok on September 2. Emmanuel-Thomas is set to appear before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing accusations of importing class B drugs. Two women, aged 28 and 32, were also arrested in connection with the case and have been granted bail pending a court appearance on October 1. The National Crime Agency has warned travelers from certain countries about the severe penalties for drug smuggling, with maximum sentences reaching up to 14 years. This incident comes amid a significant rise in drug smuggling arrests in the UK, particularly from countries like Thailand.
