US Defense Agencies Expand AI Tools for Maritime, Testing, Development

The Department of Defense and associated entities are actively advancing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across various military applications. The Defense Innovation Unit has launched the SAILS initiative to develop AI/ML tools that aggregate data from multiple sources to improve situational awareness for the U.S. Navy, emphasizing capabilities for operation in challenging environments and compliance with security standards. Concurrently, New Mexico State University and White Sands Missile Range have collaborated on the Defense Learning Certificate program, which includes training to create an AI-skilled workforce within the Army Test and Evaluation Command, aimed at enhancing developmental testing processes. Additionally, the US Marine Corps has published a comprehensive AI implementation guide intended to inform and benefit AI practitioners in defense sectors. These efforts highlight a broad commitment within the U.S. military to integrate AI technologies for operational and strategic advantages.
