While staying in a gated resort, Cavallari awoke to find a masked intruder crawling on her bedroom floor, attempting to steal her Uncommon James jewelry after an HVAC repair. Despite the shock, Cavallari remained calm to avoid alarming her son who was asleep next to her. She later woke her then-husband, Jay Cutler, which is when the reality of the situation sank in, causing her to shake with fear. The intruder, later identified as the HVAC maintenance worker, stole cash and jewelry, which was eventually recovered.
