Stephen King's Zone Corp Radio Stations Closing

Stephen King's Zone Corporation will cease operations of its eastern Maine radio stations, including WKIT 100.3 FM, WZLO 620 AM, and WZON 103.1 FM, on December 31, marking the end of over 40 years of broadcasting. King, who acquired these stations starting with WZON in 1983, cited his age and significant financial losses as reasons for the closure. Despite the stations consistently losing money, King maintained them out of his love for music and as a local, independent owner, resisting the trend of corporate takeovers in the radio industry. He expresses pride in the impact these stations had on the community, providing entertainment and a platform for local advertisers. The decision to shut down was made to organize his business affairs as he approaches his later years. King and the Zone Corporation have decided not to make further public comments following the announcement.
