Veterans Hall Hit by Car Again; Safety Reviewed

For the second time in three months, a car crashed through the roof of the Clay-Ray Veterans Hall in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, most recently on May 28, 2025. Emergency crews found the vehicle lodged in the roof, and the driver, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was able to walk to the ambulance. Authorities are investigating whether excessive speed, impairment, or a medical emergency contributed to the crash, which damaged the same section of roof recently repaired after a similar incident in February. The earlier crash occurred during a police chase involving a fugitive and resulted in serious injuries to the driver and two juvenile passengers. Local residents and veterans are frustrated by the repeated incidents, leading to delays in reopening the hall and prompting discussions about installing warning signs or barriers. Police are working with transportation officials to consider additional safety improvements in the area.
