Waymo Plans Las Vegas, San Diego, Detroit Launches

Waymo announced plans to expand its commercial robotaxi service to Detroit, Las Vegas and San Diego, adding to its existing markets. Public operations are expected next year or by summer 2026, depending on local regulatory approvals. The company will deploy an all‑electric mixed fleet of Jaguar I‑PACE and Zeekr RT vehicles running its 5th‑ and 6th‑generation Waymo Driver and will complete an initial mapping phase with human drivers before switching to fully driverless service. Waymo has already conducted driver‑operated mapping runs and prior tests in these markets and said it will continue winter and adverse‑weather validation where needed while seeking permits in states including Michigan and Nevada. The rollout includes partnerships with platforms such as Lyft and Uber in some cities, has drawn local support for improved accessibility and road safety, and makes Waymo the second autonomous provider on the Las Vegas Strip after Zoox.
