Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has called for a judicial inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment of an Army officer's fiancée during police custody at Bharatpur police station. Patnaik characterized the incident as 'very shocking' and indicative of the 'incompetence' of the ruling BJP government, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and swift action. The Odisha Police has suspended five officers implicated in the incident, with criminal cases filed against them by the Odisha Crime Branch. The National Commission for Women has also sought a report from the state police chief. Patnaik's remarks were sparked by the harrowing account of the victim, who reported being assaulted and molested while in custody. He urged the government to take exemplary action against those responsible and criticized the end of the previous government's citizen feedback initiative, Mo Sarkar.
