Everton Leeds Settle Premier League Profitability Dispute

Everton and Leeds United have reached an amicable out-of-court settlement regarding Everton's breach of Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) during the 2021-22 season. Everton was found to have exceeded the permitted losses by £19.5 million, resulting in an initial 10-point deduction in November 2023, later reduced to six points on appeal. Leeds, who narrowly avoided relegation that season and argued Everton's overspending gave them an unfair advantage, decided not to pursue the matter further, believing their case was not strong enough to go to court. The settlement ends Leeds' compensation claim related to Everton finishing above them and receiving higher merit payments. This resolution allows Leeds to concentrate solely on their Premier League campaign amid a challenging season. Other clubs initially eligible to pursue claims have not reached similar agreements with Everton.
