Imran Khan Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, while his wife, Bushra Bibi, received a 7-year sentence for corruption related to the Al Qadir University Trust in a case involving £190 million. The verdict, delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana in a makeshift court at Adiala Jail, included fines of Rs 1 million for Khan and Rs 0.5 million for Bibi, alongside the confiscation of land belonging to the university. The National Accountability Bureau accused the couple of receiving illicit benefits from a property tycoon, Malik Riaz, in exchange for facilitating a financial settlement that caused significant losses to the national treasury. This ruling follows multiple delays and Khan's earlier legal struggles, including a period of illegal detention in 2023. Both Khan and Bibi have denied wrongdoing and claim the charges are politically motivated. Khan, who has faced previous convictions and is currently serving multiple sentences concurrently, accused the judiciary of being tarnished by this verdict.
