Matthew Goode Stars as Lead in Netflix Dept Q Adaptation

Matthew Goode stars as Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck in the new Netflix crime drama series Dept Q, based on the novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. Dept Q follows Morck, a brilliant but difficult detective with PTSD, who is relegated to leading a cold case unit filled with misfit officers after a tragic shooting incident within the Edinburgh police force. The series, which all episodes were released on May 29, explores Morck's efforts to solve long-forgotten cases while navigating his strained relationships and mental health challenges. Goode, known for roles in Downton Abbey, The Crown, and The Imitation Game, was chosen for the role by writer-director Scott Frank, who envisioned Goode's jadedness fitting the complex character. Although Netflix initially sought a bigger name, Frank advocated for Goode, emphasizing the show's potential to elevate the actor's profile. Dept Q offers a fresh take on Nordic noir, transplanting the setting to Scotland and blending dark humor with procedural drama.
