Naylor's Double Sends Mariners to Playoffs
Josh Naylor's two-out, bases-clearing double off Rockies reliever Victor Vodnik in the eighth inning gave the Seattle Mariners a 4-3 win Tuesday and clinched a playoff berth. Colorado rookie McCade Brown struck out a career-high 10 over five innings while Mariners starter Bryce Miller was charged with three runs in 5 2/3 innings. Gabe Speier struck out the side in the eighth to earn the win and Andrés Muñoz closed for his 38th save. The victory improved Seattle to 88-69, extended its run to 15 wins in 16 games (five straight), and ensured at least a wild-card berth with a chance to clinch the AL West.
