Orange County Police Shoot Carlsbad Homicide Suspect After Multi-Agency Pursuit
A suspect wanted for shooting a woman to death during a carjacking in Carlsbad was fatally wounded in a shootout with police in Laguna Hills, Orange County. The incident began when Carlsbad police responded to gunfire reports and found the victim deceased, with her vehicle stolen. Newport Beach police used License Plate Reader technology to locate the suspect's vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended near El Toro Road and Avenida De La Carlota. The suspect exited the freeway, stopped the vehicle, and fired at officers before they returned fire and struck him. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead; no officers were injured. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is overseeing the investigation, which has raised concerns about police procedures and public safety in the community.
