Athletics Opt for Grass Field in Sacramento

The Oakland Athletics have decided to use a natural grass field at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, reversing an earlier plan to install artificial turf. This decision, made in collaboration with the MLB Players Association and field consultant Murray Cook, addresses concerns about the extreme heat in Sacramento and the potential risks associated with playing on turf. Originally, turf was chosen for its durability to accommodate both the A's and the Sacramento River Cats. However, feedback from players and the MLBPA highlighted the preference and safety benefits of natural grass. The change aligns with ensuring the best playing conditions, as artificial turf could exacerbate heat-related issues despite proposed cooling measures. The Athletics will play on this grass field starting in the 2025 season, as they transition from Oakland to Las Vegas by 2028.
