Milwaukee Man Charged After Wrong-Way Crash Kills Unborn Child, Injures Pregnant Woman

A wrong-way drunk driving crash on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee severely injured a 33-year-old pregnant woman and caused the death of her unborn child. Jorge Alvarez Mathuzima, the 39-year-old driver, faces multiple felony charges including first-degree reckless homicide for the unborn child and intoxicated use of a vehicle, with a blood alcohol content nearly twice Wisconsin's legal limit. The collision caused the pregnant woman's SUV to roll over and catch fire, prompting deputies to perform a dramatic rescue despite dangerous conditions, as captured in body camera footage. The victim sustained severe injuries including a fractured rib, broken hip and nose, and severe lacerations.
