Queens DA seeks public leads in 2020 cold case murder of correction officer John Jeff

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has released surveillance footage of the 2020 murder of John Jeff, a 28-year-old off-duty correction officer, in hopes of generating leads in the cold case. The incident occurred on August 15, 2020, during a parking dispute in Springfield Gardens, where Jeff was shot multiple times after a verbal altercation with the occupants of a black Mercedes and a white Infiniti. Katz is urging anyone with information to come forward, offering a $30,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest. The footage shows the chaotic moments leading up to the shooting, which was witnessed by party-goers nearby. Jeff, who was shot eight times, was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. Katz emphasized that although cases can grow cold, they are never forgotten.
