The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has identified Karnataka Congress MLA B. Nagendra as the mastermind behind a multi-crore scam involving the Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki ST Development Corporation. The agency alleges that approximately ₹187 crore was diverted from the Corporation's accounts into fake accounts across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with ₹20.19 crore reportedly used to finance a candidate's campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bellary and for Nagendra's personal expenses. The ED's investigation, initiated from FIRs filed by Karnataka Police and the CBI, revealed that Nagendra orchestrated the scam with the help of 24 associates, including notable figures like Satyanarayana Varma and Vijay Kumar Gowda. The funds were improperly transferred to the MG Road Branch without authorization, violating government guidelines. The agency has filed a prosecution complaint in a special PMLA court in Bengaluru, which has taken cognizance of the case. Evidence obtained during search operations corroborated the claims of financial misconduct and election-related expenditures.
