The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced over $636 million in grants as part of its Airport Improvement Program (AIP), distributing funds across 320 projects in 46 states and American Samoa. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized that this funding aims to enhance safety and modernize airports nationwide, benefiting both passenger travel and cargo operations. Notable allocations include $24.2 million for runway rehabilitation at Stewart International Airport in New York, $16.3 million for Philadelphia International Airport, and $15.7 million for taxiway construction at Detroit Willow Run Airport. This is the fourth round of AIP funding for 2024, following a previous allocation of over $374 million. The AIP is supported by approximately $3.3 billion annually as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which seeks to address aging airport infrastructure across the U.S. The FAA highlighted the importance of these investments in sustaining and improving critical airport facilities.
