Google Play Books Streamlines Book Purchases on iOS

Google has launched a new feature in its Play Books iOS app that allows users to buy e-books and audiobooks directly through the app via a 'Get Book' button, which navigates to the Google Play website. This change comes as a result of Google obtaining permission to bypass Apple's in-app purchase commission system, which typically takes a 30% cut of digital content sales. The new feature aligns with Apple’s 'reader' apps exception, designed for apps that primarily provide access to digital content. Users will see a warning when leaving the app to complete transactions on the external site, ensuring they understand they are not purchasing through Apple. Additionally, users can share books with family members using Google Play's Family Library across various devices. This update marks a significant shift in how e-books can be purchased on iOS, providing a more streamlined experience for users.
