Fight Diverts Cancun-London Flight to Bangor, 267 Stranded

A TUI flight from Cancun to London was diverted to Bangor, Maine, after two passengers were caught smoking in the bathroom and subsequently engaged in a violent fight onboard. The altercation involved a man punching a woman, who fought back, leading to their arrest by federal authorities upon landing. Due to crew work-hour limits, the plane had to remain grounded overnight, leaving over 200 passengers stranded in the Bangor International Airport terminal with limited amenities. Passengers were eventually accommodated by a relief crew the next day, allowing the flight to continue to London after a 17-hour delay. Bangor is a common diversion point for international flights entering or leaving the U.S., but this incident was unusual due to the extended delay and on-board violence. Neither of the two disruptive passengers faced criminal charges, but both were returned to their home countries on separate flights.
