Mets Recall Jared Young Place Tyrone Taylor On 10-Day IL
The New York Mets have recalled outfielder Jared Young from their Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse after placing outfielder Tyrone Taylor on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Taylor, regarded as the team's top defensive outfielder, has been sidelined since late August and was batting .218 with two home runs and 25 RBIs this season. Young, who has hit .306 with 16 home runs in Triple-A this year, has struggled somewhat in his 18 games with the Mets, batting .222 with three home runs. The Mets also made roster moves by optioning left-hander Brandon Waddell to Triple-A and recalling right-hander Kevin Herget. Taylor's injury likely means Cedric Mullins will see increased playing time in center field, with other players like Jeff McNeil and Luisangel Acuña potentially filling in as well. The Mets are currently competing for a National League wild-card spot, trailing the Padres by two games with about a month left in the regular season.
