Stamford Man Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit in Massachusetts, Connecticut
Jeffrey Lauture, a Stamford man, was arrested after leading state police in Massachusetts and Connecticut on a high-speed pursuit that ended on Interstate 84 in Vernon, Connecticut. The chase began when Massachusetts State Police alerted Connecticut troopers about Lauture's black Nissan Frontier pickup, which was driving erratically and engaged in pursuit before Massachusetts police disengaged as the vehicle entered Connecticut. Connecticut troopers received multiple 911 calls about the erratic driving, attempted a traffic stop near exits 69 and 68, but Lauture accelerated to over 90 mph, leading police to deploy stop sticks near exit 65, deflating the truck’s tires. After colliding with a concrete barrier and attempting to evade capture by driving into the grass median, Lauture surrendered without incident. A loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine was found in the vehicle, and Lauture faces multiple charges including reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility, illegal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and using a cellphone while driving. He was held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Rockville.
