UK Councils, Police Enforce Warnings, Evictions in Multi-Region Anti-Social Behaviour Crackdowns

Local authorities across various UK regions are intensifying efforts to combat anti-social behaviour (ASB) through enforcement actions, patrols, and awareness campaigns during Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week. Basildon Council has issued 165 formal warnings, conducted evictions, and obtained closure orders and injunctions to address persistent ASB among residents. Kent Police have deployed dispersal orders in coastal towns such as Herne Bay and Whitstable, moving on nearly 20 people and arresting suspects linked to disturbances and underage street drinking. Housing Ombudsman’s recent report highlights severe maladministration by landlords in handling ASB complaints, emphasizing the need for better coordination between repairs and ASB management to protect social tenants. Newark and Sherwood District Council, alongside partners, is promoting reporting channels and victim support to raise awareness and encourage community involvement in tackling ASB. Ashfield District Council is conducting hotspot patrols in Sutton and Hucknall, collaborating with businesses and the public to gather evidence and reduce nuisance behaviour, underscoring a multi-agency approach to create safer communities.
