Two Scots Rapists Jailed Seven, 13 Years for Multiple Child, Adult Abuses

Gary MacPherson, a 58-year-old from Saltcoats, was sentenced to a 17-year extended sentence (13 years in custody and 4 years supervision) after being convicted of 22 charges including rape, involving the systematic grooming and abuse of eight young girls over 16 years, starting when the youngest victim was six years old. MacPherson used tactics such as creating a child-friendly environment and social media messages to gain victims' trust, and he threatened victims to keep silent. Non-harassment orders banning him from contacting seven victims were also granted indefinitely. Separately, another offender, Colquhoun, was sentenced to seven years at the High Court in Glasgow for abducting, assaulting, and raping a woman who withdrew consent during the attack, which caused her significant psychological harm. Additionally, Owen Lonie received a seven-year sentence for raping two vulnerable women in the Highlands, with a 20-year non-contact order imposed. These cases highlight the judicial system's firm stance on punishing sexual abuse and protecting victims through long sentences and ongoing supervision or restrictions.
