Golden Charter Academy Expands Fresno Enrollment, Prepares 2026 Environmental Campus

Golden Charter Academy in Fresno, founded by former NFL player Robert Golden, is the nation's first nature-based urban charter school focusing on sustainability and hands-on learning, currently enrolling students from TK through 7th grade. A new $26 million campus for the school, designed by renowned architect Arthur Dyson, is on track for completion by July 2026 near the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, featuring four buildings with indoor and outdoor learning spaces aimed at creating an energy-efficient, nature-integrated environment. In Upland, a new charter high school named Pathways Prep Academy will open in the 2026-27 school year, serving up to 500 students in grades 9-12 with a curriculum emphasizing problem-solving, hands-on projects, dual enrollment opportunities, and a whole-child approach. This academy aims to foster community unity and provide students with pathways to college credit and real-world learning experiences. Meanwhile, public charter expansions and improvements are also evident in other regions, such as the Water’s Edge Village School in North Carolina, which recently opened a new state-of-the-art building enhancing educational opportunities for K-8 students with low student-to-teacher ratios and advanced technology.
