Cranston Man Dies After Police Standoff

In Cranston, Rhode Island, 69-year-old Neil Douglas, who was terminally ill, shot at his wife and responding police officers before dying by suicide. The incident began around 8 p.m. on Tuesday after Douglas fired several shots at his wife, who managed to escape and call 911. Upon police arrival, Douglas fired at them, hitting a house across the street but causing no injuries. A multi-agency response, including drones and robots, failed to defuse the situation, ending when crisis negotiators and police found Douglas deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police recovered three legally obtained firearms from his home. Authorities emphasized the importance of reporting threats and mental health crises to prevent such tragedies.
