Cabarrus County Teacher Swim Coach Arrested Child Abduction Charges

Camryn Mae Carte, a second-grade teacher at Weddington Hills Elementary School and former swim coach at Concord High School in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, has been arrested and charged with two counts of felony child abduction. The charges relate to an incident dating back to November 1, 2024, where she allegedly abducted a minor from a person with legal custody. Additionally, Carte was investigated for an inappropriate relationship with a high school student, including allegations of sleepovers and sharing inappropriate pictures. She was suspended by the school district on August 26, 2025, and released on a $50,000 bond following her arrest on October 23, 2025. Cabarrus County Schools has stated it is fully cooperating with law enforcement but declined further comment due to the ongoing investigation. The district confirmed Carte's employment since August 2024 and noted her involvement in the 2024-25 winter swim season at Concord High School.
