Starbucks Launches Protein Lattes, Cold Foam in U.S., Canada
Starbucks has rolled out Protein Cold Foam and a new line of Protein Lattes across the U.S. and Canada, available year‑round starting Sept. 29, 2025, with beverages delivering roughly 15–36 grams of protein per grande. Protein Cold Foam — offered in flavors including banana, vanilla, chocolate, matcha, salted caramel, brown sugar, plain and seasonal choices like pumpkin and pecan — can top any iced drink, and a ready‑to‑drink version will arrive later this year. The protein‑boosted milk is made by blending unflavored whey into milk (offered as a $1 milk upcharge) while flavored Protein Cold Foam is an additional $2; Starbucks is promoting items such as Sugar‑Free Vanilla Protein Matcha, Vanilla Protein Latte and Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew. The launch is presented as part of CEO Brian Niccol’s broader modernization strategy, which has included store closures and job cuts, and taps a wider industry trend toward protein‑forward products. Some health experts say consumers should pay attention to where they get their protein, suggesting the introduction warrants scrutiny despite its convenience and higher‑protein appeal.
