Google Play Introduces 'Verified' Badge for Secure VPN Apps

Google has announced the introduction of a new 'Verified' badge for VPN apps on Google Play, aimed at enhancing user trust and data protection. To qualify for this badge, VPN developers must complete a Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 validation and meet several other requirements, including a minimum of 10,000 installs and 250 reviews. The badge will indicate that an app has undergone independent security reviews and complies with Google's safety guidelines. Notable VPNs like NordVPN, hide.me, and Aloha Browser are among the first to receive this verification. This initiative comes as VPNs gain popularity in the U.S. amid concerns over data privacy and access to blocked websites. Google previously introduced privacy labels and security review badges to promote transparency and user safety on its platform.
