Shooting Incident Under Investigation in Kannapolis

Kannapolis, N.C., has experienced two separate shooting incidents involving the police. In one incident on January 6, Khari Keem Wilkes was fatally shot on Pine Hill Street, prompting police to search for two suspects believed to have fled the scene. In a separate event, a traffic stop on January 5 led to a shooting on North Cannon Boulevard, where one individual inside the vehicle was shot and hospitalized. The person shot had not been identified, and the involved officers were placed on administrative leave as the State Bureau of Investigation probes the incident. No officers or other vehicle occupants were harmed in the traffic stop incident. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading to the shooting during the traffic stop.
