Hamas Confirms Death of Chief Mohammed Deif

Hamas has confirmed the death of its military chief, Mohammed Deif, who was accused by Israel of orchestrating the October 7, 2023, attacks and was killed in an Israeli airstrike in July of the previous year in Khan Yunis. The announcement was made by Abu Obeida, spokesman for Hamas' armed wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, who also confirmed the deaths of deputy military commander Marwan Issa and other senior members. Israel had previously announced Deif's death in August. Deif, known for his ability to evade capture, had led Hamas's armed wing since 2002 and was on the US list of 'international terrorists' since 2015. Often referred to as the 'cat with nine lives,' his death marks a significant moment in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
