Kansas Coach Bill Self Hospitalized for Heart Procedure

Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self was hospitalized at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after experiencing concerning heart symptoms and underwent a successful procedure to have two stents inserted. Self, 62, is expected to make a full recovery and be released from the hospital soon. This incident marks his second heart-related procedure in recent years, following his absence from the 2023 Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. Self remains the most successful coach in Kansas history with two national championships, a Hall of Fame induction, and 23 seasons as head coach, and he has publicly dismissed retirement speculation. The Jayhawks are preparing for the new season with recently hired assistant coach Jacque Vaughn and incoming freshman Darryn Peterson, who is considered a projected top NBA draft pick. Self was able to coach the team's final summer practice before his hospitalization and is reportedly in good spirits.
