Kevin Pillar Retires, Criticizes Rangers Culture
Kevin Pillar, a veteran MLB outfielder celebrated for his defensive excellence, has retired after a 13-season career. Pillar, 36, spent the early part of 2025 with the Texas Rangers but was released after batting .209 in 20 games. In announcing his retirement, Pillar criticized the Rangers' team culture, contrasting it unfavorably with that of the World Series-winning Atlanta Braves. Rangers President Chris Young acknowledged some issues with team connectivity but defended the players and organization. Over his career, Pillar played for 10 teams, most notably the Toronto Blue Jays, where he built his reputation as one of baseball's top defensive outfielders. He retires with a .255 batting average, 114 home runs, and 54 defensive runs saved.
