Following a BBC investigation, tenants detailed serious problems such as broken fire alarms and unresponsive management, with some claiming they faced eviction threats for raising complaints. Athwal, who owns 15 rental properties, stated he was unaware of these issues as they were managed by an agency and emphasized his responsibility to address them promptly. He acknowledged that some of his properties may lack the necessary licenses, which he is currently working to renew. Despite his self-identification as a 'renters champion' offering below-market rents, local officials are calling for investigations into his management practices.
