John Hancock’s Historic Boston Home Offered for Sale After 50 Years
John Hancock’s historic Boston home, known as the Ebenezer Hancock House, is for sale for the first time in 50 years, offering a rare opportunity to own a property deeply linked to American Revolutionary history. Built in 1767 and located near Boston’s Freedom Trail and Faneuil Hall, the 5,748-square-foot Georgian brick building is the only remaining Boston property associated with Hancock, who was the first Massachusetts governor and the first signer of the Declaration of Independence. The house served as the wartime headquarters for funding the Continental Army, with two million silver crowns loaned by France stored there during the Revolution. Currently used as a law office, the home retains many original architectural features and historic details, with a history that includes housing the country’s oldest continuously run shoe store. The property is on the National Register of Historic Places and is being sold by the law firm Swartz & Swartz, which has preserved its historic integrity since acquiring it in 1974. Interested buyers must request the price and arrange tours through the listing agent, Dave Killen, with the property assessed by Boston at approximately $1.6 million.
