Zurich Launches AI Lab with Swiss Universities to Transform Insurance

Zurich Insurance Group has launched the Zurich AI Lab, an initiative aimed at transforming the insurance industry through scalable AI solutions that enhance customer service, risk assessment, and claims processing. Led by Group CEO Mario Greco, the lab collaborates with top Swiss academic institutions, including the University of St. Gallen and ETH Zurich, and operates across St. Gallen, Zurich, and Singapore. A multidisciplinary team of PhD and master's students, guided by Zurich executives and university professors, will lead research efforts while maintaining academic freedom for the partners. The lab will focus on publishing research on AI's impact on insurance strategies and business models, emphasizing responsible AI use to advance Zurich's innovation and digital transformation goals. This initiative reflects Zurich's commitment to leveraging AI to redefine insurance customer experiences and improve operational efficiency, amidst broader industry challenges such as workforce shifts driven by AI automation. The launch coincides with Zurich's continued investment in technological innovation, including hosting its first Innovation Festival in 2025 to foster collaboration among startups, AI experts, and customers.
