Google has updated its Password Manager to support passkey synchronization across multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android, with ChromeOS in beta and iOS support coming soon. Previously, passkeys could only be saved and used on Android, necessitating QR code scans for cross-device access. The new update allows passkeys to be saved directly and automatically synced across devices, secured by end-to-end encryption. In addition, Google introduced a six-digit PIN for added security when using passkeys on new devices, providing an extra layer of protection. Passkeys are digital credentials that enable secure, passwordless sign-ins using biometric or screen lock features, aiming to simplify and enhance online security. This move is part of Google's efforts to move toward a passwordless future.
