Billy Wagner Inducted to Hall of Fame in 2025
Billy Wagner was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27, 2025, becoming both the first left-handed reliever and the first native Virginian to receive this honor. Wagner, who played 16 MLB seasons primarily with the Houston Astros and also for the Phillies, Mets, Red Sox, and Braves, finished with 422 saves—eighth most in MLB history—and a 2.31 career ERA. He is celebrated for his powerful fastball and a devastating slider learned from teammate Brad Lidge. During his induction, Wagner credited his family, teammates, and coaches, and emphasized perseverance and overcoming adversity. Joining Wagner in the 2025 Hall of Fame class are Ichiro Suzuki and CC Sabathia, with Dick Allen and Dave Parker inducted posthumously. Wagner's legacy is marked by his on-field achievements, influence on the bullpen role, and humility.
