EF-1 Tornado Strikes Baltimore, Region Sees Fatalities
A confirmed EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 110 mph struck Baltimore and Dundalk on May 16, 2025, touching down in Federal Hill at 5:51 p.m. and remaining on the ground for nearly six miles over about 10 minutes before lifting in Dundalk. The tornado caused significant damage, including downed trees, toppled power lines, and torn roofs such as at the Merritt Clubs Canton gym. Widespread power outages affected up to 74,000 customers, with BGE aiming to restore most service by midnight on Sunday. While Baltimore reported no injuries or fatalities, the broader storm system caused two deaths in Northern Virginia and widespread damage across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region. City officials established a command center in Canton to coordinate emergency response and road clearance. Meteorologists continue to assess storm impacts across affected neighborhoods.
