James Garvin, a 44-year-old Davis resident, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment, and assault with great bodily injury after allegedly grabbing a woman from behind in the UC Davis Arboretum on August 12. The woman managed to escape and sought help, prompting a Clery timely warning from campus police. Garvin, who is neither a student nor an employee at UC Davis, was identified through video recordings and surrendered himself to the UC Davis Police Department on August 20. He was booked at the Yolo County Jail but has since been released after posting bond. Campus authorities advise students and community members to stay aware of their surroundings and take precautions to ensure personal safety.
