Full-Size Spitfire Replica Featured in Durham Remembrance Sunday Parade

To commemorate Remembrance Sunday in 2025, Durham County Council will display the only hand-built, full-size reproduction Spitfire MK IX aircraft in Millennium Place, Durham City. This tribute marks significant milestones including the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, highlighting the pivotal role of the Spitfire in defending British airspace. The replica will be part of Durham City's annual Remembrance Parade, where hundreds of armed forces members will march, led by the Band and Bugles of Durham Army Cadet Force and The Rifles. Council's Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Andrew Harrison, emphasized the importance of reflecting on the bravery and sacrifice of servicemen and women, with the Spitfire symbolizing this courage. Additional commemorations include themed tours, illuminated landmarks across the county, and a service at Durham Cathedral. The event aims to engage the public in honoring those who fought in past and present conflicts.
