Two men, Malone Lam, 20, of Miami and Los Angeles, and Jeandiel Serrano, 21, of Los Angeles, have been charged with stealing and laundering over $230 million in Bitcoin. Federal authorities allege the duo used social engineering tactics to fraudulently access a victim's cryptocurrency account, stealing 4,100 Bitcoin, and subsequently laundering the funds through exchanges and crypto mixers. The stolen cryptocurrency was reportedly used to fund a lavish lifestyle, including luxury cars, watches, jewelry, and rental homes in Miami and Los Angeles. Lam and Serrano were arrested on Wednesday night and are set to appear in U.S. District Courts in Florida and California. The investigation, which included contributions from crypto sleuth ZachXBT, is ongoing. Authorities highlight the use of online aliases and sophisticated methods like VPNs and pass-through wallets to disguise their identities.
