Colin O'Brady Plans Solo 2,000-Mile Antarctic Crossing for Netflix Documentary
Colin O'Brady, renowned for being the first person to solo cross Antarctica unsupported in 2018, is preparing for an even more formidable 2,000-mile solo, unsupported ski crossing of Antarctica set to begin in November 2025. This expedition, which will take approximately 110 days, involves pulling a 500-pound sled containing all necessary supplies across both the Antarctic landmass and the treacherous ice shelves, facing extreme conditions including temperatures as low as –60°F and hurricane-force winds. The journey will be documented in a new Netflix film directed by Academy Award winner James Reed, known for My Octopus Teacher, promising a visually stunning and emotionally compelling portrayal of O'Brady's physical and psychological endurance. The documentary will also delve into O'Brady's personal history and previous record-breaking feats, providing insight into his philosophy on resilience and risk. O'Brady, who also completed the world's first completely human-powered ocean row across the Drake Passage, emphasizes the solitude and extreme challenge of this expedition, describing it as "as cold as cold gets." The film is produced by Underdog Films with a creative team including executive producers Reed and Matt Houghton, and producer Callum Webster.
